All About Balance

It’s already the end of summer. Time seems like it’s speeding up, doesn’t it?

I remember when I was a kid, the summer seemed to go on and on. I came home dirty from playing outside all day. I was often scratched up from climbing trees or exploring nearby caves. We lived on our family’s ski area and we roamed everywhere.

Now I feel like it’s so easy to get caught up in doing. As a culture we tend to value busyness in and of itself. There seems to be an endless amount of work, house projects, family commitments, volunteering, health care, fitness, and the like. I sometimes feel like the proverbial hamster caught in the wheel-running from one task to the next never feeling caught up.

The ease of summer reminds me of the importance of just being. I love nothing more than waking up and puttering around barefoot in our yard. Enjoying our flowers, watching the birds, and following the clouds across the sky resets me from all that go-go-going.

At one point my husband and I were serving on 9 charity boards. Honestly, I wasn’t able to give very much of myself to any of them and I got completely burned out. Now, I limit my outside commitments and place value on staying balanced. And I have to admit, I am much happier. Learning to say “No” was healthy for me. Plus, it freed me up for more being instead of just doing.

If you are feeling the need for balance, consider freeing up some time and space for going with the flow and enjoy those nice fall days ahead!

In love and light, Lisa
